Frequently Asked Questions About Root Canals

What is a root canal and why might I need one?

A root canal is a procedure that treats infection or damage inside a tooth. The pulp—the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels—can become infected due to decay or trauma. During treatment, the pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed, and the tooth is restored to function normally.

Is a root canal be painful?

No. With today’s dental technology and anesthesia, root canal therapy is a comfortable procedure. Most patients feel significant relief after treatment and report little to no pain during the process.
